Biking
The Boulder Junction area offers extensive biking opportunities. Whether you prefer road biking, paved trails or mountain biking, there are virtually endless options waiting for you in the area. A system of paved trails begins in Boulder Junction and follows the east shore of Trout Lake for many miles, continues east past Crystal and Firefly Lakes to Sayner, and then southeast all the way to St.Germain. Beautiful picnic spots overlook Trout and Crystal Lakes, or stop at the Crystal Lake beach for a cooling swim. Lunch at the Sayner Pub (www.saynerpub.com) and check out the boutiques and gift stores.
Another of our favorite rides starts in downtown Land ‘O Lakes and follows the paved bike/pedestrian trail to the Forest Lake Country Store (www.forestlakecountrystore.com) 8.5 miles west. The trail passes picture perfect lakes and stands of pines and hemlocks. The Forest Lake Country Store offers excellent lunch items, ice cream, and a surprisingly nice selection of gourmet cheeses and wines.
For those who don’t bring their own bikes, rentals are available in Boulder Junction at Coontail Sports (www.coontailsports.com).
